Story shared: Thanksgiving

Rick considered the Thanksgiving holiday a time to connect w/ cherished friends and loving family as well as an opportunity to spend the greater part of the day creating feasts to savor and share. It was never too early for meal preparations and never too late for masterpiece sandwich construction. Rick thought November was a good month to count blessings, prepare for blizzards and dream of extended trips to Hawaii. Checking hurricane forecasts was just part of the deal to assure great surfing conditions. We thought the Thanksgiving Eve church services were not only spectacular but the perfect chance to contemplate our baptisms, as though the occured just yesterday, their significance even more powerful today. If you are going to venture out for a deer hunt please be safe and take less experienced hunters along. One never knows when an extraordinary teachable moment will present itself. What is often thought of as a great time to shop, our proud nation set aside a day to celebrate those of it`s citizenry brave and strong who sacrificed blood, sweat and tears in service of freedom. Duty and honor are nice flashy words, meaning something quickly lost on those whose lives are not so governed. Rick often spent his Veteran`s Days in quiet solitude, then enjoying a festive meal coupled w/ 'Stripes' and a M*A*S*H marathon. Time permitting, we would even throw in a showing of 'Spies Like Us' just for a few belly laughs. Rick did not forget his fallen/ lost brothers in arms and I pray that we never do as well. I will most likely continue to share stories to keep this page alive. Rick is gone now from this earth yet I imagine him working dilligently for the army of the Lord. Rest in peace my good man, my knight in shining armour and the best husband a gal could ever hope for... ALLONS!

Rick made friends w/ anyone he found interesting or compassionate, including our funeral director after his Mom had passed on. It was heartwarming to hear Rick make tentative plans to see WICKED on Broadway. If we did not bump into our neighbors or someone originally from Brooklyn we often found ourselves making new aquaintences no matter how far away from home we had wandered. Never a dull moment!!!

Being a fascinating man, Rick did not tolerate boredom well. To alleviate the doldrums, we found events to capture both our interests and imaginations. Such adventures included listening to a former First Lady speak, stalking a white egret at Green Lane, working on a photography series in Valley Forge, Jazz Nites at "the MIchener", showing Hali not to attack baby geese, trying sushi and of course pistol instruction and shooting lessons for yours truly. I would be remiss to leave out our visit to Ruth`s Chris and the Kimmel the night our umbrella blew inside out and then down Broad Street. Incidentally I don`t remember ever finding it.

Rick was fond of saying that someone had dipped Hali in sissy sauce, but when he was alone w/ her I could hear him whispering sweet canine nothings into her lil` brown doggie ears.

We are saddened to learn of Rick's passing, and extend our sincere sympathies to you, Janice, & to the family. Rick was a unique and special man, with many talents and abilities. As neighbors for so long, he often shared his thoughts & wisdom in the oh so many conversations we had between our driveways. He will be missed by many. Thanks, Rick, for your service to our country. Rest peacefully, without pain or suffering now, in the Lord.

The first time I met Rick We were early teenagers,I lived in Philly and Rick lived in Hatboro Pa.He drove a blue (small)Fiat 500 Rick showed made his first visit to my Philly neighborhood with a BUDDY.We all HUNG out at 34th and Allegheny at a corner ice cream store.When he pulled in front before getting out of this little car a big guy dove on top of his Fiat,he covered almost the whole car.Needless to say he scared the crap out of both Rick and his BUDDY this always was something that came up between us all those years.We had it all planned for him.They were the days. Rick I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU. PAT
